NEWS CENTER - In Syria, where HTS was brought into the interim government after the Assad regime was overthrown on 8 December 2024, at least 10 thousand 672 people lost their lives as the conflict and crisis continued.
According to the Surian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), 8 thousand 180 civilians, including 438 children and 620 women, lost their lives. 3 thousand 20 of the deaths took place thrhough mass executions on the streets. Noting that impunity continues in the country, SOHR stated taht "sectarian incitement and targeting of activists and human rights defenders have increased". It was emphasised that this situation "makes it difficult to rebuild a just state and secure the rights of victims".
The SOHR reiterated its call on all local and international actors to build transtitional justice institutions to protect civilians, hold perpetrators to account, stop secterian incitement and guarantee the rights of all Syrians.
