NEWS CENTER - In a video message, German musician and activist Konstantin Wecker stated that the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and the lifting of the PKK ban in Germany should be shoulder to shoulder for peace, democracy and equality.

The famous German musician Konstantin Wecker, known for his anarchist and antifascist identity, published a video message in which he supported the process initiated by Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the Kurdish Freedom Movement for peace and democratisation in Turkey.

Wecker said in his message: “As an artist and an anti-war activist, I wholeheartedly support the initiative that Abdullah Öcalan and the Kurdish movement have developed for a just peace in Turkey. The time has come for a comprehensive process of peace and democratization. This process will bring about a better life for all people in Turkey and Kurdistan. For this, justice, solidarity, and full equality among all communities are essential. We must all work together, shoulder to shoulder.”

Wecker underlined that our world urgently needs peace, noting that war, oppression, racism, patriarchy, and the exploitation of nature can only come to an end through peace.

'LET US LEARN HOPE AGAIN'

The artist also referred to the Manifesto Against War that he co-authored with Nobel Prize-winning writer Elfriede Jelinek, recalling that they wrote this text in solidarity with the International Kurdish Cultural Festival on September 1, 2023. He made the following call: “Let us learn hope again and withdraw ourselves from all the wars of the empires.”

Konstantin Wecker stressed that for a just and peaceful solution, the Kurdish people need the physical freedom of Öcalan and the lifting of the PKK ban in Germany. “Hope keeps us alive, solidarity knows no borders,” the artist said, repeating his demand for the freedom of Öcalan and all political prisoners.

Wecker also stated that Rojava could serve as a model society for peace and democracy in the Middle East.
