Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan sent a message on 1 September World Peace Day. Abdullah Öcalan's message read at the Istanbul rally is as follows:
"To those who struggle for peace and democracy…
Our call for peace and a democratic solution is not a routine political gesture; it is a strategic step and a historical turning point. With this call, both in Turkey and throughout the Middle East, the doors of a new era in which a democratic life based on peace will replace wars and destruction have been opened wide open.
This is not merely a wish, but is a concrete reality that must be built with strong possibility and serious practical steps. Because true peace is not simply the silencing of weapons or the end of conflict. Real peace can only be achieved when freedom, democracy, and social justice are embodied in every aspect of life.
This social transformation is not only a right of our peoples, but also the primary responsibility of the new era we are entering.
Through the struggles of our peoples, the values of peace, democracy, and freedom will undoubtedly take root and find real expression in society.
This country will become the land of those who see peace and democratic life not only as a right, but also as a duty.
On the occasion of World Peace Day, I call on all our peoples to embrace this historic responsibility and to further expand the march for peace and freedom.
