ISTANBUL - According to the report announced by KCDP, at least 394 women were murdered and at least 259 women died suspiciously in 2024.

We Will Stop Femicide Platform (KCDP), Women's Assemblies and Young Feminists Federation held a press conference at Zübeyde Ana Cultural Center in Istanbul about the data on male violence in 2024. Many women attended the meeting.

Speaking about the report, KCDP Secretary General Fidan Ataselim stated that 71 percent of women are killed within the family. Fidan Ataselim stated that 42 percent of women were murdered by the men they are married and emphasized that 57 percent of the murdered women were murdered in their homes.

POLICY OF IMPUNITY

Pointing out that only 42 perpatrators who murdered women have a criminal record, "We talk about the files closed as 'suicide' in every authority, the murders disguised as accidesnts and the murderers are released," she she said.

Fidan Ataselim said that they started a mobilisation for Law No. 6284 in 2024 and continued as follows: "Let the ministries explain, what is the course of femicides? Our data and the ministry's data do not match, let's compare the ministry's data. They say 'femicides have decreased after the Istanbul Convention', but their own data refutes this. Let's fight together until we achieve full and real equality. Let's stop the murders of women together."

INCREASE IN CHILD MURDERS

Speaking afterwards, Güneş Şahin, Representative of the Federation of Young Feminists, drew attention to the increase in the massacres of children and young women and said, "The number of girls killed by their fathers this year has increased 4 times compared to 2023."

Noting that women in this country have lost their lives suspiciously and that the government does not investigate what happened to these women, Güneş Şahin stated the following: "We organized protests with thousands of women from universities and high schools. We feel responsibility. As a feminist who struggles in this country, I say that the real hope of this country is the young feminists who fill the streets for the women. Of course we will win equality with our struggle."
