Ill prisoner Mehmet Emin Çam's condition critical 2025-08-08 09:21:26 SÊRT – Şimel Çam, daughter of the ill prisoner Mehmet Emin Çam who suffered two heart attacks in prison, stated that her father's health is worsening and called on the parliamentary commission to prioritize the release of ill prisoners.   Mehmet Emin Çam, aged 73 and listed among the seriously ill prisoners by the Human Rights Association (IHD), has not been released despite attempts. His lawyers applied for a "Presidential Pardon" on June 11 but have not received a response yet. On August 6, his daughter visited him at Beşiri T-Type Closed Prison and noted his weight loss and deteriorating health.   ‘HE COULD HAVE ANOTHER HEART ATTACK AT ANY MOMENT’     Şimel Çam said her father suffers from multiple illnesses, including a brain tumor causing severe headaches that prevent him from sleeping. He has had two heart attacks and still has two blocked arteries. The medications are no longer effective, raising the risk of another heart attack. Additionally, a new mass has developed in his throat. Although he has been referred to a hospital, he has not yet been taken there.   CALL TO THE PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSION   Şimel Çam urged the newly established parliamentary commission to make the release of sick prisoners its first priority. She also highlighted severe water shortages in the prison, which create unhygienic conditions and increase the risk of infectious diseases.   ABOUT MEHMET EMIN ÇAM   Çam was detained in 2012 on charges related to the "KCK Urban Assembly" while serving as co-chair of the BDP in Sêrt (Siirt). He was sentenced to nine years in prison and was re-arrested in 2022. He suffers from multiple health problems, including a brain tumor, heart disease, kidney problems, paralysis on his left side, hearing loss in his right ear, cataracts, and a new mass in his throat. His transfer to the hospital has yet to be carried out.   MA / Ozan Bayindir
